Bad Hair, Good Treasury

Sadly, I can relate to this kitty and her bad hair, although as far as I know, I don't have hair growing out of my ears.....yet.  Perhaps it would help if I were to get a haircut every three months instead of my usual birthday haircut and October haircut.  Every year, I  tell myself that I'll do better with my hair , but I never do....I still take dull scissors to my bangs every couple of months to get them out of my eyes.  Usually by the time I actually go to the beauty shop (beauty shop? what is this, the fifties?), my bangs are sticking up at various heights and lengths, looking a little like, yes, yes, the kitty in the picture.  Come to think of it, that was the expression on my face this morning when I got the unfortunate glimpse of myself in the mirror. (I usually try to avoid mirrors whenever possible).

On that note, I thought I would show off a really fun Etsy treasury that was curated by Gabardine Couture.   She's from Switzerland and makes some really groovy handbags and other things too.

(Disclaimer:  This treasury has nothing to do with bad hair or mirror avoidance, this is a super cool treasury whereas my appearance is not super cool and has nothing whatsoever to do with this super cool treasury and I don't know why I even brought it up).

She featured one of my wall sculptures "Psychedelic Flower #1", which was inspired by the movie "Avatar".

(I really need to re-shoot some of my earlier photos, geeze......I'll add that to my never-ending list.)

In other news:  I'm on an Etsy team called AREtsy, which is all Arkansas artists, and yesterday I was one of the featured artists on their blog!  I was excited to see it, and if you'd like to check it out, here's the link:  http://aretsy.blogspot.com/2011/03/aretsy-featured-shop-primal-painter.html

Creative Angst

I was thinking today about streams of consciousness and how that's been part of my artistic evolution.    A stream of consciousness,  in my mind, is all about intuition, bypassing the brain, having a visualization that flows out through my hands with no interference from the meddling left brain.

I've been creating three dimensional sculptures from wood for the last three years, and frankly, I'm starting to find it confining.  The stream of consciousness exists, it's just halting and infused with left brain planning and thinking. It's starting to feel like a real drag.

Well that's just great.  Everytime this happens, everything has to come to a grinding halt (including income) while I experiment with something new and exciting enough to hold  my attention.  It's like I'm always looking for something, but what the heck am I looking for anyway?

I think I'm finally starting to get an idea about that after stumbling around in the dark for a few months....again.  Don't get me wrong, stumbling around in the dark can be fun for a minute (God knows I do it enough).  The dark is kind of exciting and risque, until you walk face first into one too many closed doors.

The stream of consciousness work I've been doing with my photos in gimp is so fun..  It's so  infinite, and it's very cool to see a visible evolution  in the form of abstract imagery.......true stream of consciousness work in its visual form..... Energy Art.   Too cool!  (Except my hands don't get dirty and my clothes don't get covered with paint, which is super weird.)

Now, though, I'm getting hung up on how I'm going to incorporate this new imagery into my artwork.  My first thought is to make prints of the new imagery and make a wood wall sculpture as a frame of sorts around the print.  The thought of doing that doesn't give me the tingle and the tingle is essential for my short attention span, but I'm probably going to do it anyway.  (Did I just feel that heavy sigh and drop in energy? Pay attention Laurie).

I also thought of using the new imagery as a reference and then painting the design on a wall sculpture.  Parts of that one catch my attention but not enough to trigger the fire.  (Oh no, was that a grimace?)  Acccckkkk!!!   What...is...the...problem?

In contrast,  the way I create in gimp is so natural and so flowing, it's like the left brain gets totally bypassed somehow and it's mostly right brain pure stream of consciousness stuff.  I like that....alot. (except my hands aren't dirty and my clothes aren't covered with paint.....weird).

So, what to do, what to do.......  Maybe I should just start on my fourth chakra painting.  (Did I feel anything? A little tingle perhaps?)

Have an awesome day, my one or two readers!

A Creative Evolution

Sometimes the best way to start the day is a with a big laugh, accompanied by an "Awwwww"!

This is the evolution of my most recent photo alteration.  I've started checking into online printing companies in an effort to possibly incorporate some of these altered photos into my wall sculptures.

I was thinking about how weird and twisty (and strangely appropriate for my state of mind) this concept is.   1) I make the original wall sculpture 2) I take photos of the wall sculpture  3)  I manipulate the photos of that wall sculpture into some groovy abstract art  4)  I make prints of that abstract art and incorporate them into a new wall sculpture  5)  I take photos of the new wall sculpture  6) I manipulate those photos.....and so on.......like looking into mirrors that are reflecting each others......worlds within worlds within worlds.

Below is the original photo from my wall sculpture entitled "Breaking Free".

Add some contrast and some other stuff, I can't remember what......

I remember discovering a totally fun warping function. (Warp-a-mania....warp-zilla.....warp-alicious....warp-a-zoid....Warpy McWarp-erson....)

Oh yeah, and there it is.....a portal to another dimension, maybe to the third eye and that intuitive sixth chakra zone.

Hehee, that's some trippy sh#%!   The creation of these abstract images is the epitome of how I interpret "Energy Art". There's a little bit of left brain activity in the creative process, but it's mostly an intuitive right brain approach where my mind is filled with only imagery and energy, just flowing along with what feels right with no structured thoughts or  analysis

It's fun, I tell ya!

From a budding Warp-a-Maniac,

A Few of My Favorite Blogs

My little friend ForestFaery gave me an award of sorts the other day when I was feeling blue.  She listed my blog on her blog as one that she likes to read along with several others. There were some guidelines  to follow when accepting my award, but I'm terrible when it comes to following guidelines (sorry Forest, I'm a rebel...or lazy....one of the two!).  I thought it was  sweet and flattering, though, so today I wanted to mention a few blogs that I  like to read.

http://dreamsoffae.blogspot.com/
ForestFaery is young but oh so wise and such a special girl.  She's an excellent writer and always has fun and interesting observations. Her talent isn't limited to writing, though. She has quite the artistic eye and uses it in her photography.  Check out her Etsy shop TheForestFaery.

http://inspiration-earth.blogspot.com/
ForestFaery's mother, Simply Smitten is also an awesome writer and I love reading her posts. She's very insightful, spiritual and I admire her philosophies. She makes very cool personalized clipboards and a variety of organic products which you can see in her Etsy shop SimplySmitten.

http://beautifullypractical.wordpress.com/
BeautifullyPractical is hilarious!  She mixes humor with good and helpful information, always a great read!   She makes some funky and super cool ceramics, jewelry and keepsake bags so be sure and check out her Etsy shop BeautifullyPractical.

http://della-gettingmylifebackonebeadatatime.blogspot.com/
Della writes about the challenges and triumphs  in her life while living with lupus. I admire her strength and courage.  She makes charming jewelry from seashells and other materials.  Her Etsy shop is OrangeBlossomCrafts.

http://orangiesattic.blogspot.com/
Orangies Attic is always entertaining and fun. I like it when she showcases cool etsy  finds that tie in with her stories. Her Etsy shop is full of fun vintage items, the kinds of things you might find in your grandma's attic. OrangiesAttic

There are others I like, of course, but these are some of my  favorites from when I first learned what blogging was......which was about six weeks ago!

Thanks for the award ForestFaery, you're a sweetie!

Another Dog Story

The Migraine Zone

I love all my puppies, don't get me wrong, but sometimes it gets a little ridiculous around here.  All of our dogs seem to think they need to be within four feet of me at all times, all  five dogs.  I'm like the pied piper, wherever I go it's a mini parade.  If I shut the door to the bathroom, they  lay down outside the door and wait patiently for me to come back out, then follow me single file and take their places within the four foot range with Bobo in my lap.

Yesterday I had a slammin' migraine, so I took one of my treximets which knock me out  hard.  I fell asleep on the couch and woke up about 2 a.m. and decided I needed to go to bed.  In a hardcore haze of groggy, where am I? mentality, I stood up, stepped on Chance's tail who was sleeping next to the couch.  He let out a yelp which startled Bobo, who sleeps under the blanket with me and triggered  a full-on Jack Russell Terrier tirade of high pitched screaming and yelling. Ellie, my daughter's dog, starts her shrill little girl shrieking.  I stepped somewhere else to get off of Chance's tail, and stepped on Penny's tail, who yelped and started barking.  Then I  stumbled over Patches, (Miss Skunkalicious), and promptly did a face plant on the floor amidst a chaotic chorus of exited dog yelling.  Good grief, what a zoo!

I laid there for a minute, groaning and imagining myself with one of those Batman cartoon bubbles over my head that says POW!  and then one that says ARGGGGGHHHHH!.  The noise and excitement dies down but while I'm on the floor in total darkness trying to get my act together, my face is getting  licked by several tongues at once (cartoon bubble that says EWWWWWWW).

I stumble towards the bedroom where for some unknown reason, the door is half shut, so I promptly crash into the door with my face!  Good Gawd, that migraine/treximet combo is a bitch...

The good news?  Nothing is broken, my puppies adore me and my migraine is gone. (Cartoon bubble that says AWWWWW).

By the way, that top picture is how I feel when I get a migraine.  I created that image yesterday when I was in the migraine/drugged zone.  Pretty colors but a little chaotic and jaggedy.

Have an awesome day!

Laurie
